Main Line Craniosacral Therapist Answers: What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Maybe the suggestion came from a friend, or maybe from some haphazard Google searching, but it’s happened: You’ve come across craniosacral therapy.

You’ve tried everything to relieve your headaches, back pain, or high levels of stress, but nothing has provided a long-lasting solution. Now, you’re wondering if maybe this unusual therapy can help you. But what is it, and how does it differ from other types of therapy?

Let me enlighten you. I’m a Main Line craniosacral therapist who has helped people from all walks of life find better health through this gentle, soothing, non-invasive practice. I came across craniosacral therapy when I was searching for relief from a health problem myself, and I can report from my own experience — and the experiences of my patients — that this treatment provides very real health benefits.

But before we talk results, let’s give this therapy some definition.

The Craniosacral System

Many people aren’t aware that there is a natural “rhythm” in the craniosacral system, which consists of the membranes and fluid that surround, protect, and nourish the brain and spinal cord. The balance and flow of this rhythm is essential to wellness, such that an imbalance can result in all kinds of sensory, motor, and neurological impairments. The way you feel — and even the way you think — can be negatively impacted by restrictions in your craniosacral rhythm.

When providing Main Line craniosacral therapy, my job is to assess the patient’s rhythm through light touch, taking note of any dysfunction or imbalance. Essentially, I am using my hands to listen to my patients in the same way that a counselor might listen to their words. Only gentle movements are needed to assist the body in self-correction. There are none of the quick, hard movements you might encounter in chiropractic therapy.

The results: stress relief, back pain relief, boosted energy, migraine and headache relief, clearer thinking, better sleep, better digestion, and so much more.
